What Is ARPWave Neuro Therapy?

Stimulation and movement, together.

ARPWave Neuro Therapy is a form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation, also called NMES. Conductive pads deliver controlled electrical impulses to selected muscles while a trained provider adjusts the intensity and guides you through passive or active movement.

The goal is not simply to make a muscle contract. The session uses stimulation and movement together to support more effective muscle recruitment, reinforce coordinated movement patterns and help you return to exercise with better feedback from your body.

Why Athletes and Active Adults Use ARPWave

Targeted neuromuscular work.

Best used inside an active plan

ARPWave is most useful as part of an active plan. The session should connect directly to the movement, strength or performance goal you are working toward, not sit on its own as a passive treatment.

What Happens During a Session

Screened, guided and reassessed.

  1. Goal and eligibility review. We discuss the movement, training or recovery goal and screen for reasons the service may not be appropriate.
  2. Movement baseline. Your provider observes a relevant movement or muscle-recruitment task to establish a practical starting point.
  3. Electrode placement. Conductive pads are positioned around the selected muscles or movement pattern.
  4. Progressive stimulation. Intensity is adjusted to create a strong but controlled response while you communicate continuously with the provider.
  5. Guided movement. Depending on the goal, the session may include isometrics, range-of-motion work or progressively loaded movement.
  6. Reassessment and next step. We repeat the baseline task and connect the session to your training, mobility or recovery plan.
ARPWave, EMS and TENS: What Is the Difference?

Not every electrical stimulation is the same.

EMS is a broad term for electrical muscle stimulation. NMES refers more specifically to stimulation used to produce or improve a muscle response. TENS is commonly used for sensory-level pain modulation and may not create the same visible muscle contraction.

ARPWave is a branded neuromuscular stimulation system designed to be used with individualized pad placement, adjustable intensity and, in many sessions, active movement. The exact capabilities and cleared uses depend on the ARPWave device model used at the club.

Who May Benefit From ARPWave Sessions

Guided muscle activation and movement practice.

A single session can provide useful movement feedback, but consistent progress usually comes from applying that feedback. Your provider may recommend pairing ARPWave with strength and mobility training, barbell coaching, sports massage in Carlsbad or another recovery modality based on your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

ARPWave, answered.

Does ARPWave hurt?
You should expect a strong electrical sensation and visible muscle response, but intensity is adjusted gradually and you remain in control throughout the session. Tell your provider immediately if the sensation feels sharp, burning or otherwise concerning.
Is ARPWave the same as a TENS unit?
No. TENS is generally used for sensory-level stimulation, while ARPWave sessions are designed around neuromuscular stimulation, muscle response and guided movement. Device settings and intended uses vary.
Do I exercise during the session?
Often, yes. Some sessions begin with passive positioning, but ARPWave is commonly paired with isometric, mobility or functional movement work so the stimulation connects to a practical goal.
How many sessions will I need?
The answer depends on your starting point, goal and response. Begin with one assessment and session. Your provider can then recommend whether a short series or occasional integration into training makes sense.
Can ARPWave treat an injury?
ARPWave at Carlsbad Athletic Club is not a diagnostic service and does not replace evaluation or treatment by a licensed medical professional. Seek medical guidance for a suspected injury, unexplained pain, neurological symptoms or post-surgical care.
Who should not use ARPWave?
Eligibility depends on the device label and your health history. Tell us about pregnancy, implanted electrical devices, cancer, blood-clot history, altered sensation and recent surgery before scheduling. Final screening follows the device's current instructions for use.
